Ferguson Inks With Catamounts

The Salmon Arm SilverBacks are very proud to announce that 19 year old Defenceman Mitch Ferguson has committed to play for the NCAA's University of Vermont Catamounts; starting next season.

The 6'0, 170lbs. native of Calgary, Alberta, joined the SilverBacks last season, in a trade with the Penticton Vees, and immediately became a household name in the Shuswap; thanks to his 6 goals, and 20 points, in just 38 games that were a massive factor in propelling the 'Backs into the post-season.
SilverBacks GM and Head Coach Troy Mick says Ferguson's strong play to begin this; his 2nd full BCHL season, went a long way for scouts South of the border "We came into this season knowing that we were going to ask Mitch to carry the mail for us on the blue-line in a lot of offensive, pressure-packed situations, and he has exceeded our hopes and expectations. We couldn't be happier for Mitch and his family today, he's joining a wonderful University and Program."
With 12 points in the first 16 games of this season, Ferguson has been one of the main reasons the 'Backs are one of the higher-scoring teams in the BCHL, and he says he's very excited about the next chapter of his hockey career, too "The Catamounts have a great organization, with a long list of NHL alumnis and I have to say I couldn't be happier to be a part of the future of hockey at UVM."
Troy Mick says players like Ferguson certainly aren't a dime-a-dozen "Anytime you can find a student-athlete like Mitch, who can join your dressing room in the middle of a season, while becoming one of the boys, and producing in the classroom; and on the ice, it's like winning a small lottery. We're ecstatic to see him earn what he's worked so hard for."
The organization would like to congratulate Mitch, and his family, on this remarkable achievement. We're lucky to have many more months of hockey to watch you grow before your time begins with the University of Vermont.
