Backs win 5-2 travel to Penticton tonight

The Silverbacks (20-8-2-1) won their 20th game of the season on last night, 5-2 over the Penticton Vees (28-3-1-0) at the Shaw Centre in Salmon Arm. The ‘Backs visit Penticton tonight (Saturday) at 6p.m.

Carson Bolduc opened the scoring in the opening period with Scott Conway penalized for roughing, Bolduc’s 10th of the season and on the power-play at 14:47. The 19-year-old of Salmon Arm then potted his 11th and second of game at 19:35.

The home team lead 2-0 after 20 minutes and outshot outshot the visitors 7-3. Zack Driscoll started in goal for the Vees but was relieved by the Anthony Brodeur after two goals on seven shots.

The Vees got onto the scoreboard at 4:46 of the middle period, 2-1 ‘Backs with Scott Conway’s 26th.

The Silverbacks scored the final two goals of the second period, 42 seconds apart. Colton Thibault’s 16th at 8:58 and Chase Zieky deposited his 14th at 9:40. The ‘Backs lead 4-1 after 40 minutes and outshot the Vees 15-8.

Conway cut the Silverbacks lead in half at 8:58 of the final frame, his second of the game and 27th. And Elijiah Barriga finished the scoring with his third goal in two games and seventh of the season at 13:39, 5-2 Silverbacks. The Vees outshot the home team 14-11 in the third.

The Silverbacks outshot Penticton 33-25 overall. The ‘Backs power-play finished 1-for-2, while Salmon Arm’s penalty-kill was 2-for-2.

The Silverbacks sit second in the Interior Division, with 43 points and 14 back of the first place Vees. The ‘Backs are now seven points up on the West Kelowna Warriors (17-13-0-2), as the Warriors lost 4-2 on the road last night to the Alberni Valley Bulldogs (12-17-2-1).

The Silverbacks are 10-4-0-0 on the road, while Penticton hasn’t lost at home yet this season with a record of 14-0-1-0 in the South Okanagan. The Vees tied 4-4 at home with Alberni Valley last weekend.

The Silverbacks final weekend before the holiday break begins next Friday, December 18th in Trail at 7:30p.m. And the Silverbacks will host the Powell River Kings (17-12-0-1) on Saturday the 19th at 7p.m.
