‘Backs Take Win On Awareness Night

Two of the highest scoring teams in the league met at the Shaw Centre on Saturday, in one of the more entertaining games of the season, as the 'Backs earned a 4-3 victory over the Coquiitlam Express; handing them their first road loss of the season.

The positives were early and often for the 'Backs Landon Smith, who is now on top of the BCHL in scoring, after earning Saturday's 1st Star, he scored just 48 seconds into the game; as his wrist-shot went in to give the Backs an early 1-0 lead.

That momentum was cut short, as a short-handed goal by Coquitlam Rookie Corey Mackin made the game 1-1. Express Captain Ryan Rosenthal then scored shortly, after to make it a 2-1 game.

The Silverbacks didn't quit though, as Alex Gillies notched his 16th of the season to tie the game at 2-2; going into the 2nd Period.

Coquitlam took a 3-2 advantage early in the 2nd, but the Silverbacks responded on the Power-Play; with a Cole McAskill blast from the point that was tipped in by Jack Berezan; who scored his 3rd of the year to make it 3-3 after 40 minutes.

Landon Smith got another point on the 3rd Period's only goal, by  setting up Alex Gillies; who scored his 17th of the year, in just his 15th game; which was enough for the Backs who got a great performance from Angus Redmond.

Redmond improved his record on the season to 4-4, with 30 saves in the win.

The Backs are in for a matinee road game tomorrow, at 2:30pm against the West Kelowna Warriors
