Backs looking to rebound against Smokies tonight

The Silverbacks (2-1) make their way to the West Kootenay today (Saturday) for their first meeting of the season with the Trail Smoke Eaters (2-1) tonight at 7:30p.m. The Backs are coming off of a 5-2 loss to the Merritt Centennials last night (Friday) in the Silverbacks regular season home opener at the Shaw Centre. The Smoke Eaters also opened their season at home on Friday night and lost 3-1 to the Penticton Vees. Like the Silverbacks, Trail won both of it's games last weekend at the BCHL Showcase, 8-3 over the Coquitlam Express and 4-3 in overtime versus the Powell River Kings. Charlie Zuccarini is leading the Smoke Eaters and is tied for second in League Scoring with five goals and two assists in three games. Trail has six returning players from last season's team that finished sixth in the six team Interior Division (10-42-2-4) with 26 points, 33 points back of the Silverbacks. The Silverbacks won the 2013-14 season series with Trail, 6-0-0-1 and outscored the Smoke Eaters 30-14. After tonight, the Silverbacks will get set for a home-and-home series with the Penticton Vees beginning Friday, October 3rd in Penticton with the back half at the shaw Centre in Salmon Arm on Saturday, the 4th at 7p.m.
