POWELL RIVER, B.C.  OCTOBER 21, 2016

The Silverbacks (6-9-0-0) visit the Nanaimo Clippers (8-6-0-1) tonight (Saturday) at 6pm, less than 24 hours after the ‘Backs lost their second game of the week by a score of 6-2 at the Powell River Kings (10-7-0-0).

The Kings opened the scoring in the opening period and lead 2-0 after 20 minutes, and outshot the Silverbacks 11-10. Powell River took a 3-0 lead in the second period, before Marcus Mitchell deflected home his sixth of the season at 9:49 and a short-handed goal with Elijiah Barriga off for cross-checking.

The Kings scored two goals in the final three minutes of the middle frame and took a 5-1 lead into the third. Powell River outshot the Silverbacks 23-9. Brandon Kegler started the third period in goal for the visitors. Trevin Kozlowski faced 34 shots in the first 40 minutes, with five goals. Cameron Trott potted the ‘Backs second goal of the night, 5-2 at 4:51 of the third and the first of the season for the second season Silverback defenseman.

The Kings finished the scoring and outshot the ‘Backs 11-9 in the third, 45-28 Powell River total.

The Silverbacks power-play finished 0-for-2, while the penalty-kill was a perfect 4-for-4 along with Mitchell’s short-handed marker.

Tonight will be the second of three regular season meetings with the Clippers. The Silverbacks doubled Nanaimo 4-2 last month at the BCHL Showcase. And the ‘Backs will host the Clippers on Friday, January 27th at the Shaw Centre at 7pm.

The Clippers were not in action on Friday and are coming off of a 3-1 loss at home to the Cowichan Valley Capitals (9-4-1-2) on Wednesday.

Carter Cochrane, Julian Timba, Josh Latta all remain out of the Silverbacks lineup with injury. And Jake Heerspink sat out on Friday in Powell River.

The Silverbacks will wrap up this weekend on Sunday afternoon, October 23rd at the Coquitlam Express (6-9-1-0) at 2pm. The Express won 3-1 in Salmon Arm in September.

The Silverbacks next home game is set for Saturday, October 29th when they will host the Victoria Grizzlies (8-2-3-2) at the Shaw Centre at 7pm.
