Albertan Hirose Commits For ’14-15

The Salmon Arm SilverBacks are proud to announce the commitment of Calgary, AB product Taro Hirose (1996) for the 2014-15 season.

Hirose will be returning to the prestigious Edge School for athletes based out of Calgary for this coming season and will be playing for the powerhouse Prep team. Hockey Canada rules stipulate players under the age of 18 cannot inter-branch, or play Junior “A” out of their home province, until after graduation.

“Taro has been outstanding since day 1 of camp and is going to be a great hockey player for the SilverBacks next season,” said SilverBacks head coach/GM Troy Mick. “He would have made the team this year had it not been for the Hockey Canada regulations. He is a very gifted hockey player who is going to be an offensive threat with us next year.”

“His work ethic and character are second to none and we are very happy that he and his family have chosen the SilverBacks as his Junior “A” team to further his next step of his career. SilverBacks fans will love watching Taro play as last Saturday in Vernon he had a highlight reel goal that brought the SilverBacks faithful to their feet!” Mick added.

“I chose Salmon Arm because they have a coaching staff with great experience,” Hirose said. “They also play a high-speed and skill game which I think fits my style of play perfectly, not to mention the outstanding support and fans this team has.”

“Most importantly, I think Salmon Arm gives me the best opportunity to grow both as a hockey player and as a young adult,” Hirose added.

Taro will be playing his last exhibition with the SilverBacks tonight (Friday) before returning to Calgary to complete his schooling.

The SilverBacks invite YOU to get a glimpse of the future this evening at Shaw Centre as Salmon Arm hosts the Penticton Vees (7:00 pm).
