Unforgiving North

Salmon Arm and Prince George skated to a very fast and entertaining opening period on Saturday Night in Prince George; despite a lack of goals in the opening 20 minutes. Adam Clark made 12 saves and Spruce Kings netminder Alex Murray stopped 10, as Salmon Arm and Prince George skated to a scoreless tie into the 2nd

In the middle frame, the offense broke out; PG began the scoring when Jake LeBrun got his 10th of the season on a wrap-around beating Clark five-hole, off a feed from Jeremiah Leudtke. The Spruce Kings added to their lead, on an odd-man rush as Defensemen Mitch Eden beat Clark short-side on a pass from PG’s leading scorer Chad Staley.

Down 2-0, Salmon Arm’s Alex Jewell stepped up, and jumping on a loose puck; thanks to Brett Fagerheim, and Bryden Marsh. The 'Backs weren’t done there though, as they went to a 5 on 3 allowing Evan Anderson to notch his 14th of the season, for a 2-2 score.

Andrew Farny gave Salmon Arm a 3-2 lead in the final minutes of the 2nd, as he let one rip from the blue line, beating Spruce Kings netminder Alex Murray for his 3rd of the year and a one goal advantage.

Entering the 3rd period, Salmon Arm found themselves with the lead, but it didn't last, as Prince George's Offensive Defensemen Christian Weidauer got his 7th of the season on a one-timer on a great feed from Chad Staley and Jeremiah Luetdke. Chad Staley then put a perfectly placed shot into the top-shelf on the power-play for his 2nd of the game, and a 4-3 lead.

That ended up being the game winner as the Spruce Kings two 3rd Period goals were enough to overcome the SilverBack's attack.

Salmon Arm now prepares for a home and home series next Weekend with the Trail Smoke Eaters, starting in Trail next Friday.
