Silverbacks Host Trail Tonight

SALMON ARM, B.C. | DECEMBER 2nd, 2016

The Silverbacks (12-17-0-1) will host the Trail Smoke Eaters (15-14-0-1) tonight (Saturday) at 7pm at the Shaw Centre in Salmon Arm, less than 24 hours after the Silverbacks won 4-3 in double OT at the Penticton Vees (23-5-0-1).

Salmon Arm opened the scoring on Friday in the South Okanagan. Josh Arnold’s first of the season in the BCHL at 8:13, the 16-year-old affiliate forward of the Okanagan Hockey Academy.

Mitch Skapski’s 10th put the visitors ahead 2-0 at 11:48. And, the Vees cut the lead in half in the final five minutes of the first period. Penticton outshot Salmon Arm 21-8 in the opening period.

Jared Turcotte restored the Silverbacks lead at 2:01 of the second frame, his ninth gave Salmon Arm a 3-1 lead into the third. Each team recorded 10 shots in the second. Penticton scored twice in the third, just 1:02 into the period and with just 19 seconds remaining to force overtime.

The Vees lead 15-9 in shots in the third, and 46-27 Penticton overall after regulation.
Carter Cochrane ended the game in 3-on-3 OT at 2:25 with his sixth of the season, as he and Marcus Mitchell moved 2-on-1 in over the Vees line.

The Vees outshot the Silverbacks 8-2 in overtime, and 54-29 Penticton total. Nic Tallarico made 51 saves for Salmon Arm after being signed earlier in the week. The 18-year-old began the season with Estevan Bruins in the SJHL. The Silverbacks released Brandon Kegler on Thursday.

Neither team found the back of the net on the power-play, the Silverbacks finished 0-for-4 and 3-for-3 on the penalty-kill.

The season series is now tied 1-1 after the Vees won 4-1 in Salmon Arm on Friday, November 4th. The Silverbacks will visit Penticton again on Friday, December 16th at 7pm. And the Silverbacks will host the Vees on Saturday, December 17th at 7pm at the Shaw Centre in the final game before the holiday break.

Trail will visit Salmon Arm tonight (Saturday) for the first of three trips in this regular season schedule. The Silverbacks are 3-9-0-1 on home ice, the Smoke Eaters are 6-8-0-1 on the road.

Trail lost 4-1 at home to the Alberni Valley Bulldogs (8-16-1-4) on Friday in the West Kootenay. Trail leads the season series 3-0. The Silverbacks fell 10-3 in Trail on November 8th, 4-2 in Trail on October 28th, and 4-1 in Trail on October 12th.

Josh Laframboise will return to Salmon Arm after he was dealt to the Smoke Eaters in the off-season, in exchange for Carter Cochrane. The 20-year-old Laframboise has 12 goals, 28 points in 27 games with Trail. Also former Silverback goalie Zach Dyment is leading the Smoke Eaters between the pipes, 10-10-0 with a 3.24 GAA and .907 saves-percentage. Former Silverback, now Smoke Eaters captain Connor Brown-Maloski has five goals and 20 points in 28 games in his 20-year-old season.
