Offense Clicks For Second Night In A Row

Make it two in a row for the Salmon Arm SilverBacks, who overcame a sluggish start to the game on Saturday, to top the Vernon Vipers by a score of 6-5, in double-overtime.

Alex Gillies now leads the league in goals; with seven, after his three goal performance that allowed his teammates to jump off the bench and mob him in the Vipers' zone.

Vernon scored first, but Jeff Kennedy made it a 1-1 game after twenty minutes of play, Vernon then scored two more in the 2nd Period; before a marker by Thomas Plese that cut the Vipers' lead to 3-2 heading into the 3rd Period.

Salmon Arm tied; then took the lead in the 3rd, on back-to-back goals by Harlan Orr and Alex Gillies, moments before Vernon's Dexter Dancs tied the game at 4-4.

Alex Gillies notched his 2nd of the game with three minutes remaining, only to see the Vipers tie the game at 5-5 with just :18 left in regulation.

The 'Backs can thank two defensive plays that allowed them to grasp another victory, one being a block by Mitch Ferguson in the 3rd Period, that surely saved a goal, the second being a Penalty Shot save by Angus Redmond in double-overtime against Demico Hannoun.

It didn't take long after the Penalty Shot for the game to end, as Alex Gillies broke up ice; alone, slipping the winner through the legs of Austin Smith, for a 6-5 SilverBack's victory.

The 'Backs now gear up for next weekend's home-and-home against West Kelowna, which begins down South, on Friday.
