Camp Starts Saturday For Two ‘Backs

Salmon Arm SilverBacks Alex Gillies and Chris Mikolajek may lead very different day-to-day lives, but they will continue to represent the same logo this weekend, when they depart British Columbia for Team Canada West's Camp in Calgary, Alberta; ahead the World Junior 'A' Challenge in the City of Yarmouth, Nova Scotia, starting November 4th.

Gillies' invitation to the Camp was announced last Friday, along with the rest of the 65 player-list; while Mikolajek has known for some time that he would be working at the brief Camp that will allow Team Canada West to narrow its roster down towards 22 skaters.

Alex Gillies, who has potted 17 goals already in this young BCHL season, says he's proud to have recieved the invite "Even though it's just the Camp, it's a good opportunity, and I have to make the best of it."

He says there will be something special about the Camp "I've never had the chance to wear the Maple Leaf before, so this invite is really neat, since I've never had a chance to wear it."

It's the same story for Athletic Therapist Chris Mikolajek, who will be at the Camp to assists Team Canada West, and Alberni Valley Bulldogs Therapist James McDonald "While I wish I was going to the actual tournament, you have to start somewhere, and I'm excited for my first chance to represent Hockey Canada, I'd really like to work a World Junior's, or with the Men's Team one day"

Gillies and Mikolajek depart on Saturday, returning next Wednesday, the 30th.
