Silverbacks Head Coach & GM Scott Atkinson announced that the team has made a roster move prior to the game vs Nanaimo. “We made a difficult decision yesterday in deciding to release Nik Tallarico.
Nic played well for the Silverbacks last year, but as this season progressed it became clear that he would not be in a starting position with the club. We thought it only fair to allow him to pursue his goal of being a BCHL starting goaltender with another club. We wish Nic nothing but the best, he is an outstanding young man.”
The Silverbacks (5-6-0-0) host the Nanaimo Clippers (5-5-1-0) tonight (Saturday) at 7pm at the Shaw Centre in Salmon Arm. The home team is coming off of it’s second win of October and third victory of the season on home ice, as the Silverbacks came back to win 7-6 over the Langley Rivermen (4-2-0-6) this past Tuesday, October 10th. Riley Hayles was scratched on Tuesday, joining Josh Latta and Julian Timba. Timba has played just five regular season games thus far and Latta has missed four straight with an ailment.
The Clippers lost 4-1 last night (Friday) on the road at the Vernon Vipers (8-3-2-0). Nanaimo is 1-2-0-0 in October, 0-2-0-0 versus the Interior, and 2-2-1-0 on the road. The Silverbacks will visit Nanaimo on Sunday, January 14th at 2pm.
Salmon Arm has two wins and one regulation loss in October, along with three wins and four losses on home ice thus far. The Silverbacks are 1-0-0-0 versus the Island Division, getting by the Cowichan Valley Capitals (1-8-0-2) 3-2 at the Bauer BCHL Showcase on Wednesday, September 20th in Chilliwack.
Tristian Crozier leads the Clippers with six goals and 14 points in 11 games, while Rhett Kingston has six goals and 10 points in his first eight games as a Silverback. Salmon Arm has been outscored 48-41, as well as outscored 34-29 at the Shaw Centre. Nanaimo has been outscored 39-37, but the Clippers have outscored their opponents on the road 19-17.
Salmon Arm’s power-play is at 25-percent, with 15 power-play goals and two short-handed goals-against. The Clippers man-advantage is at 18-percent, with 10 power-play goals and two short-handed goals-against. The Silverbacks penalty-kill is running at 76-percent, without a short-handed goal and with 14-power-play goals-against. Nanaimo’s PK is at 72-percent, without a short-handed marker and 18 power-play goals-against.
